Timothy John Dyer (T.J.)
March 11, 1966 – February 20, 2018

Tim passed unexpectedly at his residence in Superior, Wisconsin.

Tim was born in Madison, Wisconsin to Barbara and Larry Dyer. He attended the La Follette High School through 8 grade, and then moved to the Portage area. He graduated from Portage High School in June 1984.

Immediately upon Tim’s graduation, he joined the US Navy. His basics were at the Great Lakes Navel School in Illinois. After graduating from basics he was transferred to Long Beach, California, and assigned as a Machinist Mate on the Battleship Missouri. It was an exciting time in Tim’s life as he was part of the crew that performed the reactivation of the “Mighty Moe.” Tim was aware of the history of the “big boat”, as he called it.

Tim remained in the Navy through the final reactivation, all of the celebrations, the world tour, and the ship’s final encounter in the Persian Gulf War.

Tim’s passion for life included fishing, camping, and working on his cars. He enjoyed family gatherings, and joining in on some of Immanuel Lutheran’s activities such as serving at the Thanksgiving Day Dinner. He loved to start a campfire and just sit in front of it in the evening for hours. We always felt he found some sort of peace watching the glowing embers and he was a master of all trades and could fix anything.

Tim also loved animals. His dog and wonderful companion was a mixed lab named Buttercup. His cat was Noodle. He always kidded that both were always happy to see him come home from work, greeting him at the door – no drama, no backtalk, and no “how come you’re late.” This was a part of his sense of humor.

Tim is survived by two daughters, Krystal Lynn Jacobson and Nadia Paradise (Jeff) – two granddaughters (Alicia and Aaliyah); his parents, Larry Dyer and Barbara Neumiller (Phillip); two brothers, David Dyer (Bobbie) and Michael Dyer (Angie); Uncle Stephen Dyer (Jenifer); and Cousin Maria Cole (Andy).

Tim recently affirmed being a Christian, and his love for the Lord.
