Thomas Roger Tangney

Tangney_webThomas Roger Tangney age 99, of the Town of Springville, Adams County, Wisconsin passed on to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at St. Clare Hospital, Baraboo, WI.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage, Wisconsin on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 12:00 Noon with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass.  Father Gary Krahenbuhl will officiate.  Interment will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Briggsville, WI.

Thomas was born on August 4, 1916 near Clyman, Wisconsin the son of Patrick and Mary (Moran) Tangney. Thomas was the second of five children born into this family. Due to the untimely death of his father in 1933, Thomas discontinued his education to operate the small family farm and help his mother raise his siblings.

In 1942 Thomas joined the U.S. Navy and completed his basic training at Camp Perry near Norfolk, VA. He traveled via troop train to Stockton, California and boarded the floating drydock USS ABSD#2. The drydock was tugged section by section out to the South Pacific and assembled near the Manus, Admiralty Islands. Thomas was honorably discharged in 1944 returning to purchase the farm from his mother and resided there until 2015, also retiring from the Adams County Highway Department in 1982.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Briggsville American Legion Post #329 for over 50 years.

In May of 1950 Thomas married Genevieve Connolly in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to this union three sons were born, Patrick, Michael & Dennis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Genevieve, brothers Clarence Tangney and Joseph Tangney, sisters Anastasia Schmidt and Loretta Paske.

He is survived by his wife Berniece J. Tangney of Wisconsin Dells, sons Patrick (Laurie) Tangney of rural Portage, WI, Michael (Judy) Tangney of Baraboo, WI and Dennis (Pamela) Tangney of Niceville, FL. Three grandchildren Genevieve (Genna) Tangney of Baraboo, Lucas Tangney of San Diego, CA. & Erin (Lowell) McDonald of Portage, WI. and Four great-grandchildren.

Military rites at the grave side will be conducted by the Briggsville American Legion.
