Paul Shipman

Paul Wayne Shipman, 48 (formally of Pittsburg, KS, currently of Friendship, WI) lost his long time battle with Guillain-Barre Syndrome in the early hours of Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the U of W Health Hospital located in Madison WI.

Paul was born on July 2, 1969 in Buena Park, CA. Early in his childhood he moved with his parents to Pittsburg, Ks where he grew up and attended Pittsburg High School. Paul moved around many times in his adult life, living in California, Blackhawk, SD, and finally ending in Friendship, Wisconsin, with his friends and caregivers Phil and Deb Philbrick. During this time Paul was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome in the early 2000’s.

Paul was an avid Harley enthusiast, riding his bikes, till his disease prevented him from enjoying riding. This did not stop Paul’s sense of humor, nor the stories of his life that he loved to tell people about, as much as he liked having those stories heard.

Paul was preceded in death by his grandparents Charlie and Bonnie Shipman, and his cousin Katherine (Katie) Knaup. He is survived by his parents Larry and Donna Shipman, a brother Will Shipman and wife Kristine, one nephew Harlen Shipman, Grandmother Bonnie Rea, and many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. Paul never married, nor had children.

The family will have a Memorial gathering for friends and family of Paul, which will be announce at a later date. In lieu of memorials or floral arrangements, Paul request that donations be made to the Guillain-Barre Syndrome website GBS/CIDP Foundation International at www.gbs-cidp.org in memory of Paul Shipman.
