Lonnie L. Pease

Lonnie Leroy Pease, age 82, of Adams, Wisconsin passed away at home, on May 19, 2018.

Lonnie was born in Adams County on April 5, 1936, to Bert and Avidia Pease.  At the age of seven Lonnie lost his mother and a short time later his brother Richard was lost to the Korean War. His father remarried and his step-mother Anna cared for him while his dad worked as a railroad engineer.  He spent most of his time with his father trapping and hunting.  This is also where he got his love of gardening.  He graduated from Adams-Friendship High School in 1956.

In 1957 he met and married Janice Buchanan while working at Arlington canning factory canning peas.  He and Jan started a family in 1958 with the birth of a daughter Penny (Gary Maleski), two years later Holly Manthey, (Bruce Kuba) joined the pod, two years later Richard was born and two years later Scott, (Becky McKenna- Pease) completed the pod.  They made a home in Lodi, Wisconsin until the death of his father and step-mother in a tragic car accident in 1968.  The family then moved back to Adams, where all four children and their families live today.

Lonnie worked as an aide at Mendota State Hospital before the move to Adams.  After the move, he worked at Lewis Container, was an LP gas man for the Cenex, and a “sanitary engineer” at the Adams County Memorial Hospital till the time of his retirement.  He loved to work and soon after retirement decided to go back to work as a janitor for the Adams Friendship School District until his official retirement at the age of 80.

Lonnie was most proud of the accomplishments of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Christopher (Nichol) Christian and Samuel Lonnie.   Jeremy Manthey (Jamie Stiteley) Alaina and Ethan. Benjamin,  Michael,  and Hannah Pease.  Erin and Brett Pease.  He and Jan will be forever present on the bleachers and cheering from above.

Lonnie and Jan were married 60 years before her passing on December 2, 2016.  As a team, they volunteered for several non-profit organizations, A-F Softball League, Jaycees, Lions and others.  Lonnie was an avid outdoorsman and taught his kids to hunt and fish.  He enjoyed the yearly deer hunt with family and friends at the Pease farm in White Creek.  He and Jan also loved camping with the family and he was a 38-year attendee at the Hodag Country Festival.

He also leaves behind his dog, companion, and best friend Sammy.

Under Lonnie’s high school graduation picture was this quip:

“What mischief lies behind these eyes, what fresh new pranks will he devise?”

Always keep that mischievous smile in your hearts, for you never know when he may visit you with a good laugh!

The family would like to thank Gunderson Memorial Clinic, Linda Charles, PA and Becky Babcock, MA for your kind care and support, and Ministry Home Care Hospice.

Lonnie’s Celebration of Life will be at Roseberry’s Funeral Home on Friday, June 1, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 pm with a service at 7:00.
