Leon D. “Sonny” Olszewski

olszewski-picLeon D. “Sonny” Olszewski, age 86 of Big Flats, formerly of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin passed away November 16, 2016 at Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.

Memorial Services will be held at 3:30 in the afternoon on Saturday November 26, 2016 at the Hales Corners Lutheran Church Grange Campus Chapel located at 5425 S 11th St Hales Corners, WI 53130. Visitation from 1:00 P.M. until 3:30 PM will be held in atrium of the chapel.

Leon was born February 9, 1930 in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Paul and Anna (Prelewicz) Olszewski.

Leon served his country in the United States Army from 1951- 1953, and was a veteran of the Korean War.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Dolores A. (Hart) Olszewski, daughter Lynn Rudolf (Roy) and two sons Donald L. and Daniel R. Olszewski, Grandchildren Rey, Erin, and Luke Rudolf, Ashley L. Olszewski and Jeremiah Olszewski; Step Grandchildren, Rob & Angela Rudolf; Brian M. James and Jericho Fischer. He is preceded in death by his daughters Pauline Olszewski and Mary A. (Olszewski) Baraniak.  

After serving in the Army Leon worked at Patrick Cudahy for 42 years and retired to Big Flats, Wisconsin where he realized his dream of living on forty acres of hunting land. Leon was passionate about the outdoors and spent countless hours on his property hunting, gardening, and cutting firewood. He loved to tinker with mechanical things especially gas engines. He was also a diehard fan of the Green Bay Packers having been to the famous Ice Bowl game and countless others as a season ticket holder. He loved spending time with family and was often said the party doesn’t start until Sonny arrives!

    With our sympathy to Leon’s family from the Oak Creek Custodial/ Maintenance dept. . We have had the opportunity to work with Leon’s son Don. What I read in the passage above, Don lives the philosophy his father taught him.
