LaVerne Harriet (Gullickson) Jacobson

LaVerne Harriet (Gullickson) Jacobson, age 81, of Adams, Wisconsin passed away peacefully Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Serenity House of Tomah, Wisconsin with her husband and daughter at her side.

Per LaVerne’s wishes there will be a private memorial service.

LaVerne was born April 05, 1935 in Strongs Prairie, Wisconsin to Edwin and Esther (Peterson) Gullickson. She married Earl Schilling on April 26, 1952. Two children were born to this union. She spent many happy years serving the Charleston patrons as well as her Avon customers. In mid-life she worked in real estate till finding her life’s passion in taking care of others as a CNA until her retirement at age 72. She enjoyed gardening, family get togethers, and dancing to country music.

It’s never too late to fall in love again. LaVerne married Jacob Jacobson on November 7, 2009. They were blessed with 6 happy years together till she was diagnosed with cancer. She was able to remain at home thanks to the loving care of Jake and her daughter till the final days.

LaVerne loved being a mom and grandma. Jake and LaVerne shared a very special bond with great-granddaughter, Caylee and LaVerne’s last wish came true when she met her great-grandson, Luca.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Esther Gullickson; two infant brothers; and infant son, Ronald Earl Schilling.

Wow! So many cherished memories of this vibrant and wonderful woman. As a child, I remember her working with my mom (as a cook) at Charleston Café with LaVerne as a waitress while I sat in a high chair (about 4-5 years old) watching them both work serving other “old timers” in Adams. Then again, she was an astute business woman, selling this Avon “stuff” that we always seemed to get at birthdays and for Christmas. But some may have forgot she was a hair dresser; she styled other customers’ hair. Each week my mom got her hair styled in the style of the big bouffant with LaVerne whipping up a style, but we as kids enjoyed her visits as she always brought us something along with her. Great memories of an iconic woman in the AF community. She certainly will be missed. I pray for God to send his warmth and love around her surviving family.
