Joyce E. Gantner

Gantner, Joyce E. of Divine Savior-Tivoli Nursing Home, Portage, WI slipped into God’s hands on January 18, 2017. Formerly of Westfield, WI, and Milwaukee, WI. Joyce was just shy of her 86th Birthday when she passed peacefully with family at her bedside.

Beloved wife of 37 years to Wilfred Gantner at the time of his death. Joyce was blessed with Wilfred’s 10 brothers and sisters and their spouses when they married. They grew close and friendships continued while Joyce was at Tivoli.

Loving mother of Penney (Jerry deceased), and Dale (deceased) (Jean). Proud grandmother of Jeff (Carey), Dale Jr. and Tina. Great-grandmother of Kyle, Kevin, Erin, Grace and Elijah. Preceded in death by former husband John.

Survived by her sister Annette (Morris deceased), brother Pat (Sandy) and many brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Joyce enjoyed knitting and at the age of 16 worked at Eagle knitting making gloves and mittens. At home, she knitted many beautiful scarves, sweaters, bedspreads and other articles. Over the years, she enjoyed traveling throughout the states. Before entering Divine Savior, she was an avid gardener, and had a green thumb with plants. She also loved to feed the birds, squirrels and watch the deer and other wildlife in her yard. She reminisced with many family pictures on her walls, which she later brought to Tivoli when she realized that was now her home.

Memorial Mass will be held at Divine Savior-Tivoli Nursing Home in Portage WI on Thursday, February 2, 10:00 a.m. Fr. Gary will officiate. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Milwaukee, WI at a later date. Gravesite: Block 3, Section 14, Row 4, Grave 20.

Many thanks to the staff at Tivoli for their wonderful care. Special thanks to Hallie for braiding Joyce’s hair and calling Shailyn to see Joyce on the 18th. I loved Joyce. We had so much fun together sharing the same sense of humor. She would try to act mean and laugh in the middle of it. One day we waited for a cab at Walmart for an hour while we made fun of the people coming in there was one man in particular who came in wearing a brown shirt with a big hole in the middle Joyce said what the hell was that and we laughed for a good long time she will be greatly missed by The people at Tivoli who loved her my only regret is that she did not get a chance to ride on the new van that Tivoli had just purchased I’ll be sure to take a trip in her honor
