Harold David Weingarten

Weingarten photo_webHarold David Weingarten passed away on May 5, 2016 at the Retirement Community Center of Nekoosa.

Harold was born in Ripon, WI in 1931, to Alvin and Stella (Peterson) Weingarten, and was the youngest of four children. He grew up in Omro, WI and graduated from Omro High School in 1949. It was during his high school years where Harold met the love of his life, Agnes Henriksen. They were married on April 14, 1956, and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage together.

Harold attended college in Oshkosh and La Crosse for two years, and then he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After being honorably discharged from the Marines, he was employed at Farmer’s Union Co-Ops at Cottage Grove, Hixton, and finally settled in Adams. Harold purchased Our Own Hardware store in Adams, which he operated for ten years. Then he purchased the Inn of the Enchanted Pines, and after two years, in December 1977, he was employed with Chicago Northwestern Railroad until he retired in 1990.

Harold was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where he was quite involved, being an usher and raising his children with the Catholic faith. He was also a member of the Adams Lion’s Club and a charter member of Moundview Golf Course, where he enjoyed many years of golfing. During the time he was a business owner, Harold was involved in and supported many community events.

His other interests were bowling, hunting, flying his own airplane, playing cards, going to casinos, and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed water activities and made sure his children all knew how to swim, as they would spend many weeks at his mother’s during the summer for swim lessons.  Harold also enjoyed vacationing with his family to Melon, WI, fishing, listening to Big Band music and watching fireworks from the pier.

He was an avid sports fan, following Badger’s football and basketball teams, the Brewer’s, Packers, and A-F Boys Basketball.

Harold is survived by his wife, Agnes, and five children: Kristin and Milan Stanojevic, H. David and Bonnie Weingarten, Beth and Ted Griffith, Corinne and Jim Allen, and Jeraldine and Rick Koss. Through these unions, he was blessed with eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, with two more arriving in June. He is also survived by one older brother, LeRoy.

A Mass with Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Father James P. McNamee presiding, in Friendship, WI.  Visitation will be Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Roseberry’s Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at the Church on Friday. Interment with Military Honors will be at St. Leo Catholic Cemetery.

Harold, you have blessed our family for many years with love and wisdom. I pray that I can carry on that trait in the future.  All my love, Agnes
