Harley (Buzz) Sumpter
Harley H. Sumpter, age 85, of Adams, WI, formerly of Waukesha, WI, passed away on November 17, 2011.
Memorial services will be 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 26th, 2011 at Roseberry’s Funeral Home in Friendship, Wisconsin. Rev. Martin Nolet will officiate. Military Honors will be presented by the Adams County Honor Guard.
Friends may call at Roseberry’s on Saturday, November 26th, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.
Buzz was born on July 6, 1926 to Jep and Edna (Boston) Sumpter in Monticello, IL. He is survived by his wife, Joanne, daughter Paula, brother, Wayne (Kate) Sumpter, sister Marjorie Maxine LaFratta, step-daughter Maria (Anthony) Jasenski (Rotterdam, NY) , step-sons Michael (Marissa) Mogavero (Albany, NY) and James (Eileen) Mogavero (Sarasota, FL), granddaughter Cara Jasenski (Rotterdam, NY), grandson TJ Jasenski (Rotterdam, NY), many nieces and nephews, and his very good golfing buddy, Dennis (Sandy) Herfel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jep and Edna Sumpter, his brothers, Homer, Ralph (Shorty) and Morris, and brother-in-law Albert LaFratta.
A proud WWII veteran, Buzz followed in the footsteps of his three older brothers and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served as a tail gunner on a B29 in the Pacific, stationed on Okinawa until his discharge in 1946. Buzz worked as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Waukesha and later became a Journeyman electrician, working construction for many years in the Milwaukee area. In 1978, he married Joanne Mogavero and together they worked and traveled throughout the western United States. In 1983 Buzz retired to Adams County and enjoyed his retirement as an avid hunter and golfer. He served as an elected Supervisor on the Quincy Town Board, Secretary of the Castle Rock Lions Club, was and a former member of the Moundview Golf Course.
Buzz we love you and we will miss you more than words can tell. Rest in Peace
Buzzy was a wonderful and kind person. He will be missed but is in a wonderful new home with our Lord and watching over his loved ones.
