Edwin L. Polhemus, age 77, of Mauston, Wisconsin died Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Tomah VA Medical Center in Tomah, Wisconsin.

Graveside service with military honors will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Lyndon Station, WI at a future date. Father Clayton Elmhorst will officiate.

Ed was born July 17, 1941 in Wichita Falls, Texas to George J. and Tillie L. Polhemus. Following High School, he graduated from University of Houston earning his Mechanical Engineering degree. Ed joined the Navy in 1960 and was discharged in 1971. While in Navy he trained at Coronado Island in California to become a Navy Seal. He served two tours in Vietnam where he performed many dangerous missions. After his return from the Navy, Ed graduated from University of Louisville where he earned his Electrical Engineering degree. Ed worked at several paper mills throughout the country as an engineer.

Ed was an exceptional golfer and traveled around the country playing his favorite courses. He also enjoyed woodworking in his later years. Ed and Jennifer also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and the highlight being their trip to Alaska, where they took a seaplane to view the brown bears catching and eating the red salmon.

Ed was a past member of New Lisbon American Legion.

Ed was preceded in death by parents, George J. and Tillie L. Polhemus; and son, Michael Polhemus.

Survivors include his wife of seven years, Jennifer Brereton of Mauston; stepchildren: Wendy (Troy) Arenz of Onalaska, Corrie (Kris) Burmeister of Oregon, WI; Kyall (Amy) Brereton of Baraboo; step-grandchildren: Tyler, Evan, Henry, and Charlie; sister, Annette Croley of Denton, Texas; and daughter, JennyLynn Polhemus of Franklin. Ed is further survived by two best friends: Mike McGraw of Sussex and Hank Budde of Oostburg.
