Charles Edward Bubla

Charles Edward Bubla, Adams, formerly of Big Flats, Friendship, and Grand Marsh, 61, entered peacefully into eternal rest to be with his Lord and Savior on June 29, 2016, at his residence surrounded by his dearest friends after an illness. Charles, or “Chuck” as he was affectionately called, was born on February 15, 1955, in Wisconsin Rapids, the first of six children born to the late U.S. Army Sergeant (Korean War) Charles Carl Bubla and Evelyn Lorraine (Streeter) Bubla (Leroy Alvin SR) Lumby, Mauston. Charles attended elementary school at Pineland Grade School, Big Flats, Middle School at Adams Friendship Jr. High School, Adams, and High School at Adams Friendship Area High School, Adams (class of 1973). During his formative years, Charles became an avid fisherman and hunter, joining his father Charles on many outdoor excursions in the central Wisconsin area. He learned many valuable life skills from his father: a farmer in Big Flats; a coniferous forest pruner and tree trimmer in Wautoma and Coloma; an agricultural laborer and a pulp production technician in South Central Wisconsin, Northern Illinois, and Great Lakes region. He especially loved the outdoors, watching the Green Bay Packers, stock car racing, and listening to 1960s and 1970s music. His special enjoyment was rebuilding older stock engines for classic cars; amassing a huge array of mechanical parts and pieces he hoped would eventually make it into his dream machine, and assembling radio and television electronics to create the latest electronic gadget. During his youth, he attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Adams at the insistence of his mother. While Charles never married, he selflessly gave of himself to others in time and influence at the expense of his own needs. In later years, Charles’ greatest love was gardening, and painting in acrylics and oil mediums; producing meticulous, gorgeous works of art fit for public display. Still, he had the time and energy to have an interest in wildlife, private church activities; accepting the Lord as his Savior in later years. His prime interest and affection was being a loving grandson, son, devoted brother and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, and friend to many in the community. Friends and relatives will always remember his “can-do, get ‘er done” attitude, wry jokes and sheepish smiles, coupled with awesome brotherly advice for his younger siblings. Charles remained fiercely committed to his Lord and Savior, parents, brothers, nieces and nephews, and viewed himself as the family patriarch after his father’s untimely passing in 1987. Charles never shied from hard labor; a child of a 1930’s depression-era mother and grandson of a soldier from the Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy (Habsburg Empire) and U.S. immigrant farmer. Charles was preceded in death by his father; U.S. Army Sergeant (Korean War) Charles Carl (Evelyn Lorraine Streeter) Bubla (1987); brother: Kenneth John Bubla (2012); brother: David Carl Bubla SR (2014); maternal grandparents: Melford Lavern Streeter and Dorothy Marie (Elgas) Streeter (1963) (both formerly from Milwaukee, WI); paternal grandparents: (Austrian-Hungarian Army (Zugsführer) Sergeant) Michal Bubla (1973) (formerly from Skalská Nová Ves, former Austrian-Hungarian Empire) and Mária (Hluchánová) Bublová (1945) (formerly from Nová Dubnica, former Austrian-Hungarian Empire); paternal great-grandparents: Michal Bubla and Adahlberta (Gallová) Bublová / Ján Hlucán and Jožefina (Crihlárová) Hlucánová (both formerly of Trenčín, former Austrian-Hungarian Empire); maternal great-grandparents: Orville David Streeter SR (1943) (formerly from Fennimore, WI) and Albertina (Schultz) Streeter (1940) (formerly of Knapp, WI) / William Michael Elgas SR (1916) (formerly of Ixonia, WI) and Katherine (Steinam) Elgas (Albert) Jeske (Edward) Brockway (1944) (formerly of West Allis, WI); step-paternal grandmother: Roza (Vacvalová) (Michal Bubla) Bublová (Alex) Bakovká (1996) (formerly from Partizánske, former Austrian-Hungarian Empire); step-father: U.S. Army Staff Sergeant (WWII) Leroy Alvin (Evelyn Lorraine Bubla) Lumby SR (1989) (formerly of Quincy, WI); two step-brothers: Leroy Alvin Lumby JR (1943) and Retired US Air Force SMSgt (Vietnam) James Joseph (Frances) Lumby SR (2004); step-sister: Juanita Marie (Gary) (Lumby) (Leon) Bernal (2015); step maternal great-grandmother: Katharina (Fisher) (William Michael SR) Elgas (1906) (formerly from Jefferson, WI); and step-grandmother: Hazel (Manning) (Joseph) Lumby (1996) (formerly from Adams, WI); along with numerous aunts and uncles and extended family.
