Carla Griese

Carla Griese, age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 15th.

She was born to Einar and Ethel (Koch) Jensen in New Lisbon, WI on November 7, 1929.  She married Burton (Putz) Griese on August 22, 1948, in Adams and he preceded her in death in November of 2012.

Carla graduated from Adams-Friendship High School in 1947 and was always very active, participating in tennis and as a baton twirler and cheerleader.  The caption on her photo in the 1947 Sandbur read ‘She is little but so is a stick of dynamite’ which was a perfect description of her.  She attended secretarial school before returning to Adams to marry and raise six children.  In addition, she worked at the Roche-A-Cri Clinic for 18 years.  Carla always had projects going and enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing, watching birds and animals, painting and making creative items for her family.  Carla and Putz enjoyed socializing with friends and had many fun times at the ‘shack’ with family and friends.  She was in the VFW auxiliary and frequently made food items for functions there.

They are survived by their six children:  Karen (Dan) Graff of Kronenwetter, WI; Glenn (Gigi) Griese of Valleyford, WA; Lauren Griese (Debi Wehby) of Friendship, WI; Wanda Abfall (Ron Dehmlow) of Friendship, WI; Dennis (Amy) Griese of Friendship, WI; and Kris (Curt) Cvikota of La Crosse, WI; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sisters, Hazel Cook of Eau Claire and Janet (Jim) Vroman of Richfield, MN along with many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Adams County Animal Shelter in Carla’s name.   Roseberry’s Funeral Home is assisting the family; visit roseberrys.com for online condolences and further information.  A memorial service will be held at Roseberry’s Funeral Home at 6 pm on Friday, July 28, with visitation from 5-6 pm.

Scott and I were so blessed to be backyard neighbors for so long with Putz and Carla. I always enjoyed our chats in the yard and when they invited me in for a cold one! I’ll never forget her coming over to see Erin when we brought her home from the hospital. Carla was a very special lady who we had the pleasure of knowing. May she rest in peace!
