Carl H. Cates

Photo_Cates_webCarl H. Cates, age 85, of Adams, Wisconsin died Saturday, May 28, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.

A celebration of his life will be held at his home on June 11, 2016 from Noon until 4:00 p.m.  Military honors will be presented at 1:00 p.m.

Carl was born February 15, 1931 in Nebo, Kentucky to William and Ella Mae (Oldham) Cates.

Carl was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Korean War as a Paratrooper. He was honorably discharged on October 27, 1959.

Carl married Shirley Oldham and together they had three children, James, Alan, and Lisa. This marriage ended in divorce.

Carl later married Janice R. Katke on July 30, 1979 in Miami, Oklahoma.

Carl worked for 23 years for Mayfield Transfer and Storage in Melrose Park, Illinois.

Carl enjoyed fixing up his homes, doing yard work, and helping others. He was a wonderful Christian man that raised his step-children as his own. He loved his dogs and having his family around, especially his grand-children.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, William & Ella Cates; son, James Chauncey; granddaughter, Zoe Krueger; brother, Charles Cates and sister-in-law, Julie Padgett.

Son: Carl (Jacki) Cates of Port Hueneme, California
Daughter: Lisa (Chris) Swader of Springfield, Missouri
Step-Daughter: Theresa (Dan) Coy of Adams, Wisconsin
Step-Son: Timothy (Teresa) Coy of Cambridge, Wisconsin
Step-Son: Ronnie (Michelle) Coy Jr. of Janesville, Wisconsin
Three grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren, one great-grandson, and seven great-grandchildren

Carl’s family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and the VA Hospital for all of their wonderful care.

    I thank God everyday that my Dad had all of you in his life and by doing so brought you all into mine. He was a very strong, wise, kind, caring, tenderhearted man with a heart bigger then any i have ever known.
