Betty Ruth Ruether

Betty Ruth Ruether, age 93, of Adams, Wisconsin passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, January 20th, 2017 at the Liberty Village in Adams, Wisconsin.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 28th, 2017 at United in Christ Lutheran Church in Dellwood. Rev. Brian Crane will officiate. Interment will be at Quincy Cemetery.

Visitation will be at United in Christ Lutheran Church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Betty was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 18, 1923 the daughter of Frank and Ella (Hinze) Swatek. Betty lived with her mother and grandparents, August and Betty Hinze in Chicago, Illinois. Betty had no siblings, but a cousin, Milton who was like a brother to her. Betty graduated from Schurz High School in Chicago in the early 1940s. Betty married her beloved husband, William (Bill) Ruether in 1941. Betty was the mother of Jacqueline June Ruether (Wilson) and William James Ruether. She and Bill raised their children in Chicago, Illinois and they later moved to La Grange Park, Illinois. Betty and Bill moved to Friendship, Wisconsin when they both retired.

Betty led a very active life. She worked at Andes Candies in Logan Square, Chicago; she worked at the American Envelope Company and retired from International Harvester.
Betty was active in her church (United in Christ Lutheran Church – Dellwood, WI) and the Ladies Circle. She was an active member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML). She was a member of Moundview Women’s Golf League. Betty loved doing crafts and even won a blue ribbon for an afghan she made for an Adams County Fair.

Betty enjoyed animals, and had several dogs and cats throughout the years. She loved children and taught them to swim, read and play many card games. She was always available to the children.

One word that would describe Betty is Friend. She was a good friend to all and was always available to help her friends, and always had a smile and loved to call her friends “Kiddo”.

Betty was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, her husband Bill, her son Bill, her daughter Jacqueline, grandson Richard Wilson, her cousin Milton and her son-in-law Richard Wilson.

Betty is survived by her grandsons: James (Jean) Wilson and Jason Kunzer; granddaughters: Sara Ruether and Amy (Braun) Ruether; granddaughter-in-law, Beverly Wilson; special friends: Barb and Alex. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

A special thank you to all the caring staff at Liberty Village for their loving care they provided Betty.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to United in Christ Lutheran Church, 1857 Cty Rd. Z, Arkdale, WI 54613.

Roseberry Funeral Home, Friendship, WI is handling the arrangements.
