William Joseph Steberl

Steberl_webWilliam Joseph Steberl, age 82, of Friendship, Wisconsin, died Thursday, December 25, 2014 at The Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wisconsin. He was a resident of King for the past three years.

Son the late Joseph V. Steberl and Bessie (nee Cook) Steberl, Bill was born February 10, 1932, in Racine.

Bill was a Korean War Army Veteran serving from 1949 to 1953 as an Advisor. After an honorable discharge, he married Patricia M. Krizan on May 1, 1954, at St. John Nepomuk Church in Racine. The couple settled in Oak Creek to raise their family.

Bill was employed as a millwright by Inland Steel in Milwaukee for over 20 years. Bill along with his wife Pat owned and operated the Bear Trap Sports Shop in Friendship for nearly 30 years. He also worked for the Adams-Friendship School District as a maintenance man and bus driver.

Bill was a member and a past Commander of the American Legion, Oelschlaeger-Dallmann, Post 434 in Oak Creek. He was a member of the VFW Post 6279, Friendship Volunteer Fire Department, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Mound View Golf Club in Adams-Friendship. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include three sons, Joseph (Kathleen) Steberl of Geneva, IL, Thomas (Ann) Steberl of Wild Rose, WI and John (Mary Ann) Steberl of Baraboo, WI; one daughter Carol Grabstanowicz of Bolingbrook, IL. Grandchildren: Stefin Steberl of Chicago, IL; Shana (Jorge) Baeza of Geneva, IL; Kristen (Justin) Seybold of Moline, IL; Lauren Grabstanowicz of Pittsburgh, PA; Emery Steberl, Tommi-Ann Steberl, Thomasha-Ann Steberl and Amy Rodacker of Wild Rose, WI; Bobbi Steberl of Cincinnati, OH; Sammi Steberl of Baraboo, WI; Great-grandchildren: Trenton Tyler of Geneva, IL; Keegan Seybold and Tenley Seybold of Moline, IL.; Special Mention, Christopher O’Brien and Joe Erbentraut. One sister-in-law Betty Seitz of Caledona; three brothers-in-law, Simon (Rosemary) Krizan of Arlington Heights, IL; Clarence Gissel of Mount Vernon, WA and William Mertig of Ashland, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph V. Steberl and Bessie (nee: Cook) Steberl; his wife, Patricia M (nee: Krizan) Steberl, two sisters-in-law, Alice Gissel and Kathy Mertig, two brothers-in-law, Harold Krizan and Robert Seitz.

Services will be held on Friday, January 2nd, at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Main Chapel, 5600 Holy Cross Road, Racine, WI. Visitation at 1pm, with service at 2pm. In lieu of flowers family and friends are making donations to The Wisconsin Veteran’s Home, C/O Nick Peskie, N2665 County Road QQ, King, WI 54946.
