  17. Gale & Doris Roberts says:

Joan and Family, We are sorry to hear of Vern’s passing. You have our sincere condolences. I first met Vern in 1949 when I started on the C&NW as a Telegrapher. He was the Assistant Signal Maintainer at Wyeville and I worked there on the extra board for a few days. When we have met over the years we always called each other Mr. Roberts in a humorous way. He had a very good sense of humor. I always thought of him as a good old railroad friend. All of us old time railroaders are slowly fading away.

Dear Joan and Family, I am very sorry for your loss, Vern was one of the special people you could always count on for a smile and a joke. It was always fun when you would come in to Villa, especially when you would bring apple slices and he always asked me to save him one because you would not make them for him at home then he gave us a big wink. You were both special and I know you will miss him but remember all the good times, it really helps. A big hug for you my friend. Margaret

    Joan, Linda and girls,

Vern brought such fun and humor to our family over all those years he seemed to follow our dad in the CNW Signal Dept, that he seemed like family to us…in fact you all did. We feel like we’ve lost a favorite uncle. Besides being such fun, he was also very smart! Could advise Jr about so many things. He was awesome!
