Vern Patterson passed away on November 24th, 2012 after an 8 week courageous and uncomplaining battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. He was provided with loving and diligent care throughout his illness by his son Terry and his wife Jean, which allowed him to spend his last days at his home, the place he most wanted to be.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 11:30 a.m. at Roseberry’s Funeral Home on Thursday, November 29, 2012.

Vern grew up in Milwaukee, WI and attended Boys Tech High School. He achieved the rank of Sargeant in the US Army serving as Squadron Leader, Welder, and Blacksmith from 1953-1958. Vern married his life long love Jean in 1957. He lived and raised his family in West Allis, WI and retired from Chrysler-AMC in Kenosha, WI after 30 years as a welder. In 2005 Vern and Jean moved to their retirement home in Friendship, WI where he enjoyed visits from his family, hunting and fishing with “his boys”, visiting his Nebraska family, caring for his beautiful yard and lighting up Friendship’s Godwin Circle with outdoor décor on the holidays.

    Tracie,
As you know, I have not had the pleasure to meet your Father. However, I know that a golden heart such as your own can only come from having wonderful & loving parents. I’m sure your Dad is looking down on you and your family and is very proud of all of you and is at peace that his work was done here on earth. Someday, in due time, you will all be together again smiling, laughing and “clowning” around. My thoughts are with you are your family and pray that you will remember all your great memories with fondness.

I knew Tracie’s Dad – not personally but through her stories of him, through her stories of her Mom, through her stories of her brothers and sister. And I can’t help but be impressed with the man, who with his wife, raised such a selfless, loving family. It speaks volumes. Our prayers are with all of you – as you mourn your loss and as you celebrate his life today.

You have Mel and my heartfelt empathy. Words fail me at a time like this, so I’ll share God’s Word of comfort. “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid…He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

It gives me comfort just knowing that today, right now, Uncle Pat is with Jesus in paradise.

Mom wants to be there with you on Thursday, but just isn’t up to the journey. I suggested flying, but she felt that would also be too hard of a trip. We may not be there physically with you, but our hearts and prayers are with you.
