Van Etta Mabel Caves

Van Etta Mabel Caves, age 71, of New London, Wisconsin died Monday, November 10, 2014 at Appleton Medical Center in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be 12 Noon on Monday, November 17, 2014 at the Adams Trinity Lutheran Church in Adams, Wisconsin. Rev. Sherry Hoening will officiate. Interment will be at the Mt. Repose Cemetery, Friendship, Wisconsin.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at Adams Trinity Lutheran Church.

Van was born December 2, 1942 in Madison, Wisconsin to Ruben and Mabel (Smith) Quamme. She grew up in Madison and later graduated from Madison West High School in 1961. Van married Phillip D. Caves on September 3, 1966 in Rockford, Illinois. They lived in Madison and Cottage Grove before moving to Adams, Wisconsin in 1974, where they resided and raised their family. Van was employed by Adams County Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aide, and then as an activities director. Van and Phil owned and operated The Family Affair Restaurant in Friendship, where you could always find Van enjoying a good conversation with a customer. Later on, Van worked for Adams County as a caregiver for special needs and elderly residents.

One of Van’s greatest joys was supporting her children and grandchildren in all of their activities. You could always find her at a field or a court, cheering someone on. Van was a proud booster of Green Devil athletic teams, and she and Phil often hosted team meals at The Family Affair Restaurant when their children were young. She went on to visit many other high schools and colleges to cheer on her children and grandchildren at events, including football, baseball, basketball, softball, soccer, cheerleading and dance competitions, as well as plays, musicals, choir and band concerts.

Van Etta was a member of New London Trinity Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be directed in Van Etta’s memory to her family.
