Roger L. Carlin

Carlin pic_webRoger L. Carlin, age 76, of Adams, formerly of Kenosha,  Wisconsin passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 31, 2015 with family and friends by his side in his beautiful log home that meant so much to him and his wife Paula.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Kenosha, Wisconsin.   Rev. Tim Berlew will officiate.  Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at First United Methodist Church.

Roger was born in Grant County, Wisconsin to Joseph and Gladys (Hardy) Carlin on February 25, 1938.  He grew up on the farms of Southwestern Wisconsin and worked hard in the fields which he loved.

He moved to Kenosha, WI in 1958 where he was employed as a machine set up man at Chrysler Corp.  until his retirement in 1996.  After his retirement he worked for St. Christopher Transport part-time.

In 1960 he married Linda Gilbertsen with whom they had four children, Joseph (Beckie) Carlin of Tucson, Arizona, Bruce Carlin of Tucson, Arizona, Debra Carlin of Kenosha, and Diane (Tim Cook) Carlin of Kenosha.  They later divorced.

On July 2, 1983 Roger Married Paula (Munson) Doerflinger and they built a beautiful life together along with 7 grandchildren, Kim Maginn of Milwaukee, Kristen Maginn of Oshkosh, Tom Johnson of Kenosha, Mike Smick of Kenosha, Laura Funk of Madison, Dan Funk of Madison, and Samantha Funk of Kenosha.  Also two step-daughters, Heide (David) Maginn and Suanne (John) Funk  both of Kenosha.

Roger enjoyed reading Pluggers cartoons in the paper.  He loved gardening, doing home repair work, planting trees, camping in their Jayco, boating in their Chris Craft  “JOINT VENTURE” on Lake Michigan, touring Wisconsin and Mackinac Island on their Gold Wing motorcycle and lastly after retirement purchasing his 40 acres of woods in Adams County where they built their beautiful log home where all family and friends were welcome.  He also loved riding his golf cart around all the trails he made in the woods. They were truly blessed with a wonderful life says his wife Paula.  Roger was a kind, soft spoken gentleman who had a kind word for all and a smile.

He was a member of Local 72, Kenosha Sports Fishermen, Kenosha Yacht Club, and The Arbor Day Foundation.

Roger will be sadly missed by his wife Paula;  his two sons, Joseph (Beckie) and Bruce Carlin of Tucson, Arizona, his two daughters, Debbie Carlin and Diane (Tim Cook) Carlin; Two step daughters, Heide (Dave) Maginn and Suanne (John) Funk all of Kenosha.  He is also survived by his precious Grandchildren, Tom Johnson, Mike Smick, Dan Funk, Laura Funk, Samantha Funk, Kim Maginn and Kristen Maginn, his sister, Maxine Shields of Blue River, Wisconsin, nephew Dale Gunderson of Blue River and niece Brenda (Dave) Gallo of Kenosha.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-son Gary John Doerflinger.

Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Kenosha- 919 60th St. Kenosha, WI 53140

    Paula and family I am deeply sorry for your loss. Roger was a fantastic person who never had a bad thing to say about anyone. He had a positive attitude and a smile for everyone. Once I met him I knew he would be a great father-in-law. He was like a 2nd father to me. I will miss him dearly along with everyone else.
