I remember Myrtle as the nicest, kindest bus driver & she was my favorite one from all my school years. Since i was the last one off, sometimes i’d go up, shy me, and talk a bit to her. She was from what little i knew of her during 4 yrs of riding bus in high school, one of the kindest souls & had such a warm smile. She will always be remembered by me as someone special for her kind heart and always making the bus ride feel like the safest one on the road. You will be missed by all who knew you, Myrtle. My heart goes out to the family.

I will always remember Myrtle as my bus driver and 4-H leader. She was always young at heart and helped so many kids over the years. Always quick with a smile and praise for a job well done. I also remember going to get flowers and plants every spring at the greenhouse, and fresh eggs. I even spent some time there with Myrtle as my babysitter! I loved playing bus driver in the buses! So many happy memories come flooding back. I extend my sympathy to Shirley and the entire Sauer family. Myrtle was a wonderful lady who will not be forgotten.

  6. Ruth Check says:

    Dear Shirley,.
I am so sorry for your loss. As everyone else has said, your mom was a very special person who spread sunshine wherever she went. When my boys were in 4H, she had a club of mostly “active” boys who she was able to keep under control! I was always amazed at what she was able to accomplish with them. What a wonderful legacy she has left to all of us.
    God’s blessings Shirley,
    Ruth

  7. Margaret de Pereiro says:

Dear Shirley, Duane and Family, Myrtle was an amazing woman who loved, taught and inspired many children and adults for many years. I so enjoyed working with her during my tenure as UW Extension Home Economist in the 1960’s.

The Adams County Fair with all the 4-H exhibits and displays was a highlight for her. There, she saw what her 4-H club members had accomplished under her leadership and guidance. Along with those club members, Myrtle pledged her head, heart, hands and health to better living for her home, her club, her community, and her world. She truly lived what she pledged. And, she did it with that special and unique smile of hers…a true example for all of us to follow.

Adams County has lost one of its best. But, Myrtle’s legacy lives on in the many, many lives she enriched.

    Shirley & family,
My deepest sympathy on the loss of your mom. Still remember all the times as kids that we spent together. Such good times, really the ending of an era with the passing of our parents. Take comfort knowing that you were an excellent daughter and that she is resting now, she was always so busy while she was here.

  10. Patty Giuffre says:

    Dear Shirley and family,

As I’m sure you know, your mother was one of a kind. She always made our brood feel welcome with her sweet and patient ways. Her culinary skills and cake decorating left a huge impression on me and even today I can still remember her heavenly chicken soup with homemade egg noodles.

We stopped by when we were at the cottage over Memorial Day weekend but you two were gone. I very much wish I had been able to see her once again. She was so special. You are, too, and I still like to think of you as my “big sister”. So, Sis, if there is anything I can do for you, please let me know.

    Love,
    Patty

Many years ago I asked Myrtle to make a birthday cake for my friend Hazel. What she came up with was indeed a work of art……a colorful outdoor panorama, complete with birds and butterflies…..just beautiful. I took a picture of it as eating such a masterpiece and leaving no memory seemed a sin. She was a multi-talented lady. May God bless her memory.
