Gerald H. “Jerry” McCaffrey, 72, of Independence Wisconsin passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at St. Clare Hospice House in Baraboo, Wisconsin.

Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Independence Lutheran Church in Independence, Wisconsin, with Pastor Terry Lorenz officiating. Visitation will be at the Independence Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 16th, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Jerry was born August 7, 1942 in Winona, Minnesota to James and Elsie McCaffrey. He graduated with a Master’s Degree in Business Education from Winona State University and taught Business Education at Independence High School for over 35 years.

Jerry was very proud of the Independence Public Schools and the entire Independence community. He loved Indee Sports, volunteering his time keeping scores, running clocks, and helping out any way he could. He always kept his kids up to date with how the teams were doing. He enjoyed Minnesota Viking Football, many sporting events, traveling and spending time with his close friends. There was nothing he enjoyed more than spending as much time as he could with his children and grandchildren. Through his smile, sense of humor and laughter, he brought happiness to everyone he knew.

Jerry was very devoted to the Independence Lutheran Church, which in his later years truly became like a second family to him.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all those who have shown their support & respect to their father over the years, and especially during this time of loss.

In Lieu of flowers, Memorials may be directed in Gerald’s memory to Independence Lutheran Church, 23844 Jefferson Street, Independence, WI 54747.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, James and Elsie McCaffrey; and his brother, James D. McCaffrey.

Loving father of daughter, Kelly (William) Bowden of Baraboo, Wisconsin; son, Jeff McCaffrey of Superior, Wisconsin; and son, Jason (Diane) McCaffrey of Duluth, Minnesota; proud grandfather of Sierra & Isabella Bowden of Baraboo, Wisconsin and Jack & Allison McCaffrey of Duluth, Minnesota.

    Jerry was always a joy to talk too, it certainly was much more fun outside the class room. I will always have is unique and pleasant voice with me for the rest of my life. Please know you are all in our thoughts and prayers as you deal with this great loss. Heaven has certainly gained a good man. If we can rearrange our schedules, we are really hoping to make the memorial service in Independence.
