Mary Buchanan

Mary Helen Buchanan, age 94, of Oxford, Wisconsin died Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at her daughter’s home in Fitchburg, Wisconsin.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Strongs Prairie Cemetery, Town of Strongs Prairie, Adams County, Wisconsin. Rev. John K. Stake will officiate.

Mary was born October 17, 1919 in Cicero, IL to Joseph and Maria E. (Pniak) Skultety. She graduated from Morton High School in Cicero, IL in 1937. Mary married John Alvin Buchanan on August 13, 1938 in Neshkoro, WI. They lived in Cicero, IL and Elgin, IL before moving to Adams County where they raised their family of seven daughters.

Mary enjoyed knitting, crocheting, collecting stamps and coins, sewing, afghans, quilts, playing cards with the neighbors, gardening, ceramics, and crafts.

Mary was a C.W.C.A.C. – SHARE volunteer, Food Pantry volunteer, and the Royal Neighbors Social Group.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Maria E. Skultety; husband, John A. Buchanan; brother, John W. Skultety; sister, Helen Bartos; son-in-law, John C. Stine Jr.; son-in-law, Henry Bassaloff; son-in-law, Phillip Bowman; grandson, Joseph W. Bowman; and great-grandson, Dominic Cairo.

Daughter: Joan Bowman of La Grange, Illinois
Daughter: Sue (Edward) Komatz of Friendship, Wisconsin
Further survived by 13 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, many other relatives, and friends.
