She married Harry Davis on June 6, 1964 in Adams, Wisconsin. In 1966 and 67 they lived in Berlin, Germany; then returned to the states and lived in northern Virginia where their five children were born. Lucille was very active in her church and served as the parish Social Action Director. She was an active leader with the Boy Scouts and especially the Girl Scouts leading troops and serving on the board of the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital (GSCNC). She served as a volunteer and later as Director of Transitional Housing for ACTS, a non-profit social action organization.

In 1997 the couple returned to Adams-Friendship where Lucille again became involved in the community. She worked for a time for the Woodland Girl Scout Council and later for Central Wisconsin Community Action Council (CWCAC). She led or helped lead local Girl Scout troops and served as Vice President of the Adams County Historical Society. She was largely responsible for the success of the 2012 Adams City Centennial. She helped organize and she volunteered for Faith in Action of Adams County (FAAC). She popped popcorn for the Adams Community Theatre (ACT).

Lucille enjoyed helping people improve their lives, organizing and producing events, spending time with her children, grandchildren and many friends, gardening, traveling, and tent camping.

Mrs. Davis’ positive, can-do attitude, kindness and joy influenced me in countless ways. Frequently I think of the wonderful, often funny memories from Scouts. Many years later, she was in attendance at a Thinking Day my Scouts were hosting. I was thrilled and so proud to introduce my girls to my Girl Scout Leader. We have all been blessed to know her. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Harry and family – May your faith and family and friends buoy you up at this time. Lucille and family have have been especially in my “God Bag” since we met at the UW Rehab Unit a few weeks ago.
Lucille has been awoman of “fight” ever since I met her when we were establishing Faith In Action of Adams County. She was a pusher and leader while I was able to give input as a former person with a disability. This non-profit group has helped SOOOO many people and I have been proud to be part of FAAC ( and hope to return to volunteering soon). I too, have felt her “fighting spirit” as I continue to re-coup. Thank you, Lucille. You will be missed but your energy and good will always be part of the fabric that has sustained the passions you were involved with in Adams County! Go low an fly slow, Harry and family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

  26. Erin Breene says:

Words cannot express the many ways that Lucille influenced my life. When my parents retired to the Adams-Friendship area in the late 90’s, I wondered if they would make new friends in the community. Well, along came Lucille. At first, I was surprised by her energy and “go-getter” kind of attitude. Then I realized that she not only had a heart of gold, but she was the kind of lady who got things done. Lucille made such a difference in the lives of so many countless people. She was a volunteer who would spend innumerable hours on whatever her current project was. I was always so impressed with how she immersed herself in SO many things, but at the same time she would be planning a gourmet dinner in the middle of meetings, appointments, gardening, etc. As others said, Lucille was a sheer force of nature. My mom and I spent so many hours talking with her, listening to her reminisce about camping trips, bicycle adventures…we always remarked at her crazy-wonderful enthusiasm for EVERYTHING. Lucille simply loved life…She loved it even when she was battling cancer and was having more bad days than good days. She set an example for me….she was the kind of person I strive to be. On top all of this, I never heard Lucille say an unkind word about anyone. She always wanted to learn about new cultures, new ways of doing things. What an inspiration, what a life force, what a wonderful and radiant woman. I will never ever forget my memories of Lucille.

  27. Laurie Falash says:

Last year I was up for Distinquished Alumni with Lucille and laughed to myself….no one can hold a candle to the accomplishments this woman has made. Was proud to be held somewhat in the same light as this wonderful woman and thats all I need in this lifetime. Rest in Peace Lucille.

  28. steve rorke says:

There will only be one Lucille. She was a tireless advocate for the poor and the forgotten. Never judgmental, she was always loving to others. She tried to lead people to find the best in themselves. And she was the first to let the powerful know when their compassion was lacking. Lucille was a good friend and a companion in working for social justice. I will miss her and her hearty laugh.

  29. Jodi Helgeson and Jim Grabarski says:

We have lost a very bright light in Adams County. Lucille was the ultimate facilitator. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  44. Eileen Luther says:

We have all been blessed to have known Lucille. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to be Lucille’s co-leader in Girl Scouts for only 6 years from 1980 through 1985. While “growing up” with our daughters, we shared a wealth of pleasures and experiences in that short time in our lives. During those years, and all the years of catching up on our family lives, I have had the greatest admiration for a friend like no other. I never saw her discouraged, and she was the most unique person I have ever met. The world of scouting, social services, ACTS, community affairs and all that Lucille was involved in was truly fortunate to have her. We will miss her.

  54. Eveie Barratt Green says:

My heartfelt condolences to all of your family. Lucille Davis was an amazing lady who impacted so many people; her legacy will live on for generations to come. I was delighted to be in her Girl Scout Troop for several years. Her big heart influenced us as we volunteered at the ACTS Women’s Shelter, babysitting children while their Moms, recovering from abuse, learned career skills. Her excitement was contagious about travel & adventure. As a Girl Scout traveling through Europe with her & ~19 other girls, I remember her encouraging us to “Talk to Strangers!…as you will meet the most interesting people & learn the real stories of a town.” She was a determined person who didn’t let supposed roadblocks slow her down. Her leadership afforded us the opportunity to earn all the $ for our trips to Europe & Mexico by starting our GS Thrift Shop, along with our Christmas Tree & Pumpkin lot. She automatically made everything we did “family friendly” & we learned that we could accomplish more as a troop of families. Although the girls & families of her troops now live around the world, we remain connected forever friends because of her investment in us. I hope as you all gather this weekend for her funeral, you have a sweet time as a family celebrating her life.

  55. Bev Ward says:
