Lester was born January 31, 1925 in Rome, Wisconsin to Vincent and Freida (Marth) Kouba.

He attended Nekoosa High School and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving during WWII, Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in August of 1948.

Lester married Georgia Jane Rathermel on March 10, 1950 in Big Flats, Wisconsin.

Lester kept busy with many projects and when he ran out of his own he was more than ready to help others with theirs. In his younger years he enjoyed camping, fishing, water skiing, snowmobiling, and spending time around the campfire with his family reminiscing over stories with a good Old Fashion.

Lester worked as a Pipefitter for the Port Edwards Paper Mill for 40 years until his retirement. He also helped establish the Rome Volunteer Fire Department and worked with the Pipefitters Union. We will all miss his stories that usually started with the phrase ‘Talk about that…’ He loved the outdoors and enjoyed many fall days in the woods with his sons and grandson’s deer hunting. He had favorite fishing spots in Canada and in the Hayward area and spent many a day trying to keep up with his favorite fishing partner Georgia.

Lester was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Kouba and parents, Vincent & Freida Kouba

  11. Cathy & Dennis Rathermel says:

We are so saddened with the loss of “Uncle Less”. We have so many wonderful memories of the times he spent with us as you say, “helping” us on the farm with our projects. He brought much laughter to us and made some of our hard times just a little lighter. We loved him deeply and will never forget him. Dennis has many wonderful memories of fishing trips with Uncle Les, Pud and himself and they will always be among some of his best memories. He is one of a few! Our hearts go out to all of you and yours. Love Cathy & Dennis
