grams_photo_Barrett_webLeda M. Barrett, age 82, of New Lisbon, Wisconsin passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Crest View Nursing Home in New Lisbon.

Leda was born July 4, 1932 in Bristol, PA to Harry and Mary Ingraham. The family moved to Wisconsin where she was raised on the farm and graduated from Portage High school.

Leda married Earl Barrett in Portage, Wisconsin. They built a home on Hwy 22 where they raised horses, bird dogs and several other animals. Leda and her daughters participated in many horse shows and races while winning several awards. When she wasn’t busy farming she worked at the hosiery and Badger Ordinance.

Leda then moved to Arkdale, Wi in the late 70’s where she continued her love of farming and raising horses. She began working at Farnam in Necedah and eventually moved to New Lisbon, Wi. Leda was “the lead lady” up until her retirement in the early 90’s.

Leda was an avid outdoors woman who loved to travel hunt and fish. She went out west yearly to hunt elk, mule deer and antelope. She even ventured down south boar hunting. She was full of life and always adventurous. Leda also loved watching the Packers and a few brandy old-fashioned’s on Sunday afternoons. Many family memories were made fishing, camping, and swimming in grams pool.

You’ve taught and helped us all in so many ways. Your strength and love was undeniable. Cheers to you “our little firecracker.”

Leda was preceded in death by her parents, Harry & Mary Ingraham; husband, Earl Barrett; Infant Sister, Mary Ann Ingraham; brother, Wallace Ingraham; sister, Alma Schulenburg; brother, Billy Ingraham; Brother-in Law, Donald Schulenburg; Brother-in-law, Michael Crawford and Son-in-law, Kenny Bailey.

  4. Wendy Davey says:

Prayers for your family in this time of loss. I also worked with Leda at Farnam, however my feelings for Leda went beyond work. The last time I saw her, she was getting her hair done and it was as if no time had passed. I always admired her…her work ethic, her loyalty to her family, her bluntness, her devotion to others and her feistiness. She truly was one of a kind. Her love for her family was obvious when she spoke of them. Rhonda…Roxie…you are truly lucky to be her daughters. God be with you in the coming days.

  9. Connie (Apfelbeck) Alft says:

My very deepest sympathies to you her loved ones. She was my Aunt for a while and she taught me so many things, like how to hunt, ride horses and laugh until you almost wet your pants (truthfully some of that might have happened too). She had such fire and spunk yet was so kind and generous she would give you her last dime and the shirt off her back if you needed it. I loved and admired her a great deal! I’m sorry life and circumstances took us all in different directions – I’ve thought of her many times in the last 20 some years. I shall say a prayer for all of you to find peace in her passing – there will never be another like her. I hope she drew a map to all those bottles she always told me she hid in hollowed out trees. Lol she was such a card!!!
