Frederick “Uncle Pete” Edward Zernia, age 87, of Hancock, Wisconsin died Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.

Per Fred’s wishes no services are planned.

Fred was born July 11, 1926 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Fred and Anna Lena (Riese) Zernia. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army. Fred worked on family farm in Hancock before working for DeGeorge family farm Triple G Ranch. He also worked at the Kettle Lakes Co-op as a truck driver until he retired in 1997. Fred married Nancy Ellen McWilliams on December 16, 1972 in Friendship, Wisconsin.
Fred’s passion was hunting and fishing, he also enjoyed telling stories of his past experiences.
Fred was a member of American Legion.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Anna Zernia; and brothers: Harry, Franklin, and Walter.

Son: John (Corey) James of Plymouth, Wisconsin
Nephew: Danny (Cathy) Riese of East Troy, Wisconsin
Daughter: Judie (Jack) Nash of Arizona
Son: Gary Zernia of Texas
Sister: Eileen Strupp of Hancock, Wisconsin
Brother: Wallace (Darlene) Zernia of Hancock, Wisconsin
Sister: Dorothy Genet of Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Sister-in-law: LaVonne Riese of Arkdale, Wisconsin
Good friend: Eugene Peterson of Arkdale, Wisconsin
He is further survived by grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

    Am so sorry to hear about Fred. I remember him and Walter from when I was a very young girl. He was at my grandparents 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration. I remember Walter the most as he used to come to my parents(Ray & Myrtle Zernia) house with his wife in Grafton. I know he will be missed.
