Ernest A. Komatz

Ernest A. Komatz, age 95, of Friendship, Wisconsin passed away on March 21, 2012 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon on Monday, March 26, 2012 at the Roseberry’s Funeral Home in Friendship, Wisconsin.  Chaplain Wayne Schwanke will officiate.  Interment will be at the Quincy Cemetery, Town of Quincy, Adams County, Wisconsin.

Visitation will be 10:00a.m. until the time of service on Monday at Roseberry’s Funeral Home.

Ernest was born January 14, 1917 in Stone City, Kansas to Matthew and Fannie (Kravanya) Komatz.  He was employed at Allis Chalmers in West Allis where he participated in work that was essential to the Manhattan Project.  Ernie was then drafted into the United States Army in June of 1945 where he served as a surgical technician during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He relocated to Adams County where he met his future wife R. Avis Reichoff.  They were married on February 2, 1950 in West Allis, Wisconsin.  Together they raised their family in Quincy.

Ernie worked for Big Joe, Wisconsin Dells, PC Kaiser Construction, Portage, Townsend Company, Friendship and Anthony Farms, Nekoosa.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching the Milwaukee Brewers and reading (especially his Louis L’Amour books).

Ernie loved spending time with his grandchildren & great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew & Fannie Komatz; wife, R. Avis Komatz; infant Daughter, Mary Komatz; son, Bruce Komatz; stepson, Orville “Butch” York; sister, Rose Kramer; sister, Ann Buchanan; niece, Judy Wagner & sister in Law, Kathleen Komatz
