Dorothy J. Jeanne Heigl

Dorothy J. Jeanne Heigl, age 89, of Mauston, Wisconsin died Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Fair View Nursing Home in Mauston, Wisconsin.

Dorothy Jeanne Reynolds Pfaff Heigl was born in Mauston, WI. September 6,1929. She graduated from high school with top honors and was employed as a bookkeeper for many years. The last being the Alaskan Motel here in Mauston.

She met and married Howard Pfaff and to this union a daughter, Vicky was stillborn. On a much happier note they adopted a son , Rodney. Some years later Howard died of a heart attack and was buried next to their daughter. It was at the Alaskan Motel she met a truck driver, Robert Heigl. They married May 21, 1983 in Winsted, Minn. Throughout their married life they moved around Minnesota quite a bit and experienced running a motel and a grocery store. Eventually, they moved back here to Mauston and did woodworking and truck driving for a while and to be closer to Rodney.

When her health slowed her down, she became very attached to her dogs: Muffy, Ginger, and George to name a few.

Unfortunately, Dorothy tripped and fell in her home and suffered a broken hip. Some complications occurred during surgery and recovery and she required more care and therapy than Bob could provide. Dorothy went to Elroy, WI. Nursing facility to try to recover. When an opening was available here in Fair View she was moved here. Recovery was slow but with the help of the CNAs’, Nurses, PT staff and everyone else she met here; “Dottie” was able to stand, take a few steps with a walker, and get around in her wheel chair quite well. She enjoyed socializing, getting her hair and nails done and being the well dressed lady she always was. She was very witty and had a quick come-back in conversations
that left everyone laughing! That’s how she will be remembered to most of us!

Dorothy left us Tuesday, August 18, 2015. She is now pain-free and free of her frustrations of not being able to move about as she once did. She left behind a son, her loving husband, Bob, 4 step daughters, as well the good friends she made here.

There may have been things and /or people unintentionally left out of this writing, but rest assured she cared about you and the world around her.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers and please know they have been answered in the best way possible.

Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at the Fair View Nursing Home in Mauston, Wisconsin. Please join us in Dorothy’s memory for cake and coffee.

May God Bless you all!

Our sympathy to Robert. We knew him and Dorothy over the past years and did business with them when they moved to their apartment. They were great people and always friendly. The very best to Robert and any family he may have from all of us at Dairyland Auction of Elroy.
