I am eternally grateful for the time (well spent) enjoying Mr Bowers’ company over the years… he was engaging, witty and respected. He didn’t hesitate to do the right thing, even when no one was looking (that’s a man’s man). My deepest heartfelt condolences to the Bowers family (and the towns I fondly call “home”) for their loss. Thank you for sharing your homes and time with so many of us growing up and struggling to find our way through life. Mr. Bowers (who would eventually one day suggest, in a style uniquely his own, that I should call him ‘Bob’ from now on) holds a special place in the pantheon of father figures young men encounter and hopefully learn from over the years… you sir, will be missed… will be remembered… and will live on in all of us that got to spend some time with you.

  13. Gary & Jennifer Steele says:

God Bless you Bob! Thanks for all the years of your help & friendship at your mill. God bless you too, Pat! I hope your memories together will get you through this time of sorrow.

  14. Rich Burik says:

Saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. Bob was a friendly, kind and good man when I knew him way back when I was in high school and we traded with him at Bowers farm service. It was always a treat to bring a pickup load of corn and oats to be ground at his grist mill where either Bob or his dad would often treat a thirsty kid with a bottle of “pop”. A few years ago when I was back in Friendship for a class reunion I was able to visit with Bob at the motel he owned. Thanks Bob for the memories. I’m glad to read of his involvement in the church and I look forward to another visit one day.
