Shannon was born December 16, 1941 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Harold A. and Merle L. (Knoff) Evans. She attended Greenfield High School. She married Stephen J. Hencsik on May 7, 1960 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The couple lived in Milwaukee and raised their family there. Shannon retired from News Broadcast Network and then moved to Mauston. Shannon and Stephen had recently celebrated their 50^th anniversary.

Shannon enjoyed crafting, knitting, gardening, oil painting, reading, and baking.

Shannon was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Merle Evans; Brother-in-law, Richard Taczala; and nephew, Corey Taczala.
